Last week we had a record crowd attend our annual Goal Setting Mastery workshop at the beautiful Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

The energy was amazing! I love the idea of 170 people/ strangers coming together to think through what matters to them most and set meaningful goals for this year and beyond. When they began to communicate their visions to others it was electric. You could hear the wheels turning and the anticipation growing as the night went on. Some people became antsy in their chairs and when I inquired why, they said “I’m done with this planning…I need to get into action, get started.” I thought to myself, “Mission accomplished.”
You see, my goal for the night was to help people create enough tension between what they want (their highest aspirations, and truest of values) and their current reality. Once you have adequate clarity in both of these states you will have tension to resolve. “Tension Seeks Resolution,” says Robert Fritz, the founder of the Structural Dynamics. This is a good tension! The kind of tension that energizes you to create your goals.
The insight that is ripe here - if you seem to be missing that kind of tension in your life, you might want to examine what you want most and contrast it with your current reality. Doing this could be the starting point of something great for you and perhaps a defining moment in your life.
Illius Rahman of Dale Carnegie Toronto, explains this well and offers more tips in his recent interview on a local OMNI TV show called, “Badhai Ho”. Click here to watch.
For additional advice and strategies to be your absolute best in 2010, here is a quick e-book by Dave Mather.
I always think it’s a good idea to re-think what is important to you and do some good planning. If the New Year causes that - great! I hope the suggestions and ideas above get you started or add more insight into helping you reach your goals.
If you have more questions or require a deeper conversation, call me or one of our coaches. We would be glad to support you and or your organization to more fully express your highest of aspirations.
Best Success in 2010!
