Today’s Monday Morning Mentor is written by my son, Kevin Jr.

Last week my childhood best friend called me from the Canada Hockey House in Vancouver just to share the moment with me. Canada was playing Norway. Just then over the PA they announced Canada won another Gold Medal, “Congratulations Maelle Ricker”.
I got goose bumps! The crowd cheered like I’ve never heard before.
Thanks Dave, what a moment.
No wonder we are still best friends.
I might be in
Toronto for the games, but I’m there with you.
This morning I passed a gentleman in our office building hallway that I have never managed to speak to but have seen for years. Today was different – he was wearing the new Canadian Hockey Jersey. I lit up with excitement and we begun to chat with pride about hockey and the Olympics etc… We could still be there right now. Looking forward to seeing him again.
I have been getting emails from friends and colleagues from all over the world (some I haven’t heard from in years) congratulating Canada on our opening ceremonies, our hosting and wanting to talk about the games, the athletes and all the exhilarating moments. It’s been great reconnecting.
I’m sure you all have had many of these experiences over the last few days too. It’s fun, isn’t it?
It is amazing how this Olympic Spirit is bringing people together. It reminds us all about the power of people sharing similar values and convictions. When this happens at a deep level, people unite and great things happen.
More than ever, I have noticed that truly successful organizations and businesses seem to have a spirit, a cause and a purpose that unites them – way beyond financial goals and survival. We all can name a bunch of them.
In fact, they demonstrate (not talk about) their core values so well that they create fans of their businesses, people begin to cheer for them to succeed by spreading the word.
Sounds exciting doesn’t it? So the big questions are…
-
Does your organization have the “Olympic Spirit” for what you bring to the table?
-
How could you create or enhance it?
-
How could you design your business so people would cheer for you to succeed?
As my father always says… “Action is all there is!”
Have a great week! Go Canada! Go World!
